Hate Crimes: Ramifications for LGBT Communities

Apr 23, 2013
10:00 AM PDT

In this webinar, we will look at how the modern gay rights movement has shaped current hate crime legislation. Participants will walk away with practical ways to support LGBT folks experiencing harassment and violence and learn more about how crime victim service centers can best support all LGBTQ crime victims.

Shannon Perez-Darby is the Youth Services Program Manager at The Northwest Network of Bi, Trans, Lesbian & Gay Survivors of Abuse. Under her guidance, the NW Network has developed a regional LGBT youth crime victims program. The program serves LGBT youth who experience dating and family violence, sexual assault, trafficking, robbery, harassment, and a host of other victimizations. Bridging her work with youth and youth workers, Shannon has developed an extensive LGBT youth technical assistance project. The project focuses specifically on mandatory reporting issues, support for LGBT youth in the sex trades, and LGBT youth dating violence issues. Shannon has a deep commitment to LGBT youth, which she demonstrates by her support of youth leadership and self-determination.
