30 Hour Pre-Service Advocacy Course

The 30 Hour Pre-Service Advocacy Training must be completed before a staff member or volunteer of a Crime Victim Service Center responds to a victim of crime. The content of this course will focus on the fundamental skills of advocacy and working with victims of crime, saving crime-specific advocacy tips and other advanced topics for training during the advocate’s first year of service.

The course will include the following topics for advocates:
  • Victimology/Empowerment
  • Values Clarification
  • Cultural Competency
  • Listening Skills
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Resources Legal
  • Justice Systems
  • Secondary Trauma
6-hour Advanced/Recurrent Training Course

This is a recurrent course for advanced advocates, or for those new advocates who have completed the core training outlined above. This class covers two topic areas and meets the annual classroom training requirements for both for new advocates in their first year of service and tenured advocates as set forth in the Standards Manual for the Crime Victim Service Centers published by the Washington State Office of Crime Victims Advocacy.

The course will include the following topics for advocates:
  • Dealing with Families of Homicide Victims
  • Working with the Victims and Survivors of DUI-Related Offenses
