Dave Johnson is the executive director of the Washington
Coalition of Crime Victim Advocates (WCCVA), an organization that has been
safeguarding victim rights and working to increase services to crime victims
for over 22 years in the state of Washington. Mr. Johnson previously worked as
a law enforcement officer - beginning that career over 30 years ago during the
earliest days of the victim rights movement. He worked many years as a
detective investigating sexual assaults, and later was the head of the Adult
Sexual Assault Detail at the Tucson Police Department in Arizona, supervising
the work of seven detectives. In that assignment, he served as a community
liaison establishing collaborative relationships with several community
agencies, including many victim advocacy groups. He had significant experience
as a trainer and was on the training staff of the Arizona Law Enforcement
Officer Training Academy, a multi-agency police educational center administered
by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. He also has many hours of classroom
instruction, including teaching a yearly class to medical students at the
University of Arizona College of Medicine. |
| Dr. Shannon Meyer, Ph.D.

Dr. Meyer has worked extensively in the field of
violence and victimization since 1986, with specific expertise in physical and
sexual violence against female partners. Dr. Meyer has conducted empirical
research, published in professional peer-review journals, and has presented at
national and international conferences. She has also conducted violence-related
trainings, workshops and seminars for almost every facet of the criminal
justice system; for private, public and not-for profit organizations; for
social service providers; and for academic audiences. As a university faculty
member, Dr. Meyer taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels,
including courses related to violence and victimization. She served as an
expert witness in District, Superior and Supreme Courts in New York and
Washington State on matters related to violence against women, including the
murder of intimate partners. Dr. Meyer's clinical expertise is in the
evaluation and treatment of batterers and she has provided treatment to over
5,000 abusive men. Dr. Meyer's current interests include risk assessment
methodologies for domestic violence, particularly in law enforcement settings.
Dr. Meyer is currently employed by the F.B.I. as a Victim Specialist.
