The Washington Coalition of Crime Victim Advocates has been involved in public policy issues since 1984. Not only do we work to educate the public and policymakers about crime victim issues, but we educate legislators and the public on crime victims' rights and serve as a watchdog on victim issues.
In recent years, we have been involved with the criminal court rule making process of the Washington Supreme Court. We have voiced our opposition to court rules that had a negative substantive effect on crime victims, and we have participated in discussions with the Washington State Bar Association to ensure that victim concerns were addressed in court rules proposed through the Bar.
We also publish position papers to help educate the public and policymakers on issues that affect crime victims. We encourage our members to get involved in the legislative process; because of the effect legislative decisions can have on victims and those who provide services to victims.
